September Time to Sew!

It is always impressive to see how much members accomplish during our Time to Sew events!
Members love using the large counter in the Home Ec room to cut out new projects!  Barb and Angela were busy at our August event doing just that!
It took most of the day, but Angela cut out a large quilt ... she is ready to go!
Marcela also cut out an entire quilt!
And made great progress on her piecing!
Sam finished a baby quilt!
Tori began a project to organize her scraps!  She is making baskets from scraps, for scraps, by color!  Wrap your head around that quilt project!  Amazing!  We're all excited for this project!
The fun happens every month!  Come and join us!

August Quilt Events!

Christmas in August Event
Our Christmas sewing event was held the first Saturday this month!
Marcela organized the event!  She began the day by starting a new quilt!
Before long she had it pieced and layered!
And yes, by the end of day it was machine quilted!
Kay also layered this sweet wall quilt!
She also began hand quilting this cute Christmas quilt!
Barb layered a large quilt that she plans to machine quilt!
Next she began working on making surgical caps for a children's hospital!  Such a good cause!
Shannon brightened the rainy day by bringing her project!
Barb was busy making a colorful banner for one of our local first grade teachers!
It was Marianne's last sewing event with us before she and her family move to the Lower 48.
Although most of her quilting had been packed, she had this Christmas project out and available for the day!

We had such fun!  Everyone made progress on their projects!  Thanks to Marcela for organizing this event!

Q of V & More!

Quilt of Valor Service Project
It has been a wet and dreary May, but on Saturday the sun came out and so did our members!
Thanks to the efforts of Kathleen and Kay, we had a mission that enabled us to create an equally beautiful day indoors!  They co-chair our Service Committee and organized a Quilt of Valor event for us!
They made a few sample blocks ahead of time help us envision the quilt!
Members raided their stashes and brought scraps of red, white and blue fabric.  Our guild's Accu Quilter made short work of cutting up all that stash!
Before long log cabin blocks were appearing everywhere!
Everyone pitched in and found a task to do!
Some members focused on sub-cutting the units!
While others were busy piecing!
By 2:00 pm we had 48 blocks done and had determined the layout!
Kay and Kathleen immediately got busy and pieced the top!  It truly was "A Quilt in a Day"!

Show n' Share
Because our Q of V went together so quickly, members had time to share finished projects and make progress on current ones!
Kay shared a recently finished sampler quilt designed by Pat Sloan!
Tory finished a Missouri Star design and Marcela machine quilted it for her!
Marcela does beautiful machine quilting, here is some detail from the back of the quilt!
Torie was busy adding borders to another sampler!
Amber spent the afternoon making a travel bag!
It was fun to see it come together!  The results are beautiful!
Marcela joined Amber and was making the bag along with her!
Both finished them by the end of the day!  What a great way for friends to spend a day together!
Barb continues to make great progress on her hand applique' blocks!
Marianne shared a quilt top she had finished piecing while out of town!
She used log cabin blocks to create the shape of a grand piano for this quilt top.
She then pieced the keyboard!
It was added to the piano and another quilt top was done!

As always, our Time to Sew event was inspiring and productive.  A huge thanks to Kathleen and Kay for organizing our Quilt of Valor!  It was a wonderful way to spend sewing time during Memorial Day weekend!  We are all so excited that it will be given to a local veteran!

Kathleen & Kay with a recent Q of V finish!
Kathleen and Kay have organized this service project for us!

  • Saturday, May 26th
  • High School Home Ec Room
  • 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Members are asked to bring red, white and blue scraps on Saturday!  We'll be using the Accu-Quilter to cut our stash into strips to build our log cabin blocks!  You can find the block instructions here, just click the link!  Members who are unable to attend Saturday, are encouraged to make blocks at home!  A total of 48 blocks are necessary to make the quilt!  If you have questions, contact Kathleen (kritchen@ctcak.net) or Kay (blueberryhill@gci.net) !

April's Time to Sew!

It was a grey and rainy day, but in the Home Ec room the quilt related creativity filled the room with sunshine!
Cece was busy working on a block of the month project!
Amber applied binding to her recent quilt!
Cutest flannel backing ever!
Angela made great progress on her current quilt!
Marcela was busy machine quilting a top!
And before the day ended, she had it bound!  We all loved the piecing done around this panel!
Sam added the finishing touch, binding, on this quilt as well!  Fun for all when helping members celebrate a finish!
Sam also added borders to her mystery quilt block project!  Sew much to celebrate!
We have an opportunity to extend our fun!  All members are encouraged to participate in The Net Loft's Bird in Hand project!  It will be such fun to see handmade birds, who have "migrated from all corners of the world" on display at the Cordova Center's Museum Art Gallery!  Submissions will be accepted up to Sunday, April 29th at The Net Loft!  Here is the link for a registration form!  Let your creativity be a part of our community's Annual Copper River Shorebird Festival!
