Leslie Loves Her Quilt!

Leslie sent us a picture of her and the quilt that many guild members made for her.
Here is what she had to say...

Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt you all made for me. I've been following the "making" of this quilt for the past couple of months never dreaming I would be the recipient, what a surprise. It's gorgeous and every time I cover up I will think of all you ladies that made this happen. Thanks again and hope you ...all have a Happy New Year. Looking forward to getting home in March.

Leslie...we can't wait to have you home quilting with us!  Get well soon!  A huge thanks to Diane W. for organizing this project for us all!

A Time to Sew weekend is being planned for January.  Stay tuned...will post dates and times as soon as I know!

Happy New Year!

Yes ... the guild has taken on a covert mission!  Secret Agents, Lila and Kay, are heading up the operations.  You will not want to miss out on this adventure!  This whole operation is classified...to receive security clearance contact Agent Lila (3536) or Agent Kay (5160).  You won't want to miss out on this opportunity to serve ... and this message will not self-destruct in order to protect your computer!  Let the intrigue begin ... ;-) !

Tea & Auction...A Huge Success!

We held our annual Tea and Auction this afternoon.  We sponsor two scholarships each year and this event serves as our primary fundraiser.  We held it again this year at Orca Adventure Lodge, which has everything we need to hold this event!  Steve is so generous and allows us to use the facility free of charge.  Thank you Steve!

These are our student volunteers.  They served tea and showcased auction items during bidding!  Thanks kids for helping make our Tea & Auction a huge success.  Who knows?  They could be future scholarship recipients!

Guild members volunteer to decorate tables for the event!  It is so fun to see what theme each quilter chooses ... enjoy the tablescapes!

Aren't they fun!  In our isolated corner of the world ... we know how to be creative!  The goose decoy, in the rubber boot, moved randomly!  What a hoot!  I suppose I should say ... what a honk!

I do not know the exact number of donations we had to auction off this afternoon, but I am sure there were well over 50.  Take a look ...

This queen sized quilt, Hypnotic,  was pieced by Diane W. and Dawn, long arm quilted and bound by Linee'.  It sold at auction today for over $400!  Now that is something to "honk" about!

It was such a wonderful afternoon ... so many to thank ... Jerry our auctioneer ... members for their donations ... to all those who contributed food ... our table decorators ... and to everyone's generous spirit of fun!  Enjoy your purchases and thanks for coming!

What Fun! What Inspiration!

Wow!  We had a great crowd this weekend at "Time to Sew"!  It is always so much fun to spend time together doing what we love!
Kathleen was busy working on a Minnesota Hotdish while Kay was making great progress on the Hypnotic quilt she started only last weekend.  The quilts behind them were both pieced by Barb H.  The one on the left was the mystery from the Valdez Quilt Festival and the one on the right is the one she made at the Popsicle Party we had last summer.
Dawn was busy working on her flannel "Rag" quilt ... I hope you're sitting down when you read this ... her quilt is King sized!  Yes, you read that correctly ... it is King Sized!  We have to come up with some type of an award for her when this is finished!
Lila was working on a beautiful holiday-themed wall quilt.  Bidding is bound to go high on this auction item!
Julie was busy working on the alternating blocks for her Cobblestone Lane BOM quilt.  She always "sticks to it" and accomplishes a lot at these events.
Every time I turned around, Tammy was working on yet another project ... which means she had finished the one before!  She is so productive and inspiring!
Here's Terry busy planning her borders for her Popsicle quilt!

Diane W. took a brief pause ... it is tough to get this woman to be still long enough for a photo ... she is always busy working on a new quilt or technique.  We all appreciate and benefit from her energy!

Hubby Bob dropped by to show off the hat his wife, Terry B. recently knit for him!  Don't you all think he deserves an award for courage?  I mean honestly, none of the other husbands dared to enter our domain, let alone model for the camera!

I think it is pretty obvious that we all know how to have fun ... less obvious is probably the inspiration we give one another.  Always when I look at the lovely work my guild members have made or are in the process of making ... I'm inspired.
Cobblestone Lane by Barb H.
Glacier by Terry B.
Our favorite kind of "eye candy"!
Genan was busy making these patchwork scarecrows ... I know that there is only one in the picture ... but she in making four of them simultaneously!  When she is finished with them, I am going to count the number of 2 inch squares ... multiply that number by 4 ... and then I will probably faint! ;-)
After our quarterly business meeting, President Diane U. demonstrated the 10 minute table runner for us.  What fun!
Here are the samples she had available to inspire us!
As usual ... we had fun ... we encouraged one another ... we inspired one another ... but the moments we all enjoy most is celebrating one another's accomplishments ...
... seeing the joy in a fellow guild member's face when they've met a goal is priceless!

Stay tuned ... there is a lot of guild activities coming up soon!  Will be back tomorrow with some important announcements!  Happy Quilting!

Don't Miss the Fun! November's "Time to Sew"

You won't want to miss this event...especially Saturday!  Time to Sew will begin in the CHS Library Friday, November 5th and run from 6-10 pm.  Saturday the fun will begin at 10 am.  At noon, we can move from the Library to the Home Ec room.  A potluck is scheduled for 6 pm with our quarterly business meeting to begin at 7:00.  Immediately following the business meeting, President Diane Ujioka will be demonstrating the fast and fabulous "10 Minute Table Runner"!  Last weekend I watched her make three of them ... they were gorgeous ... and I couldn't believe how quick and easy they were!  They will make terrific gifts!  If you would like to make one on Saturday, bring the following supplies:
  • Usual sewing equipment and supplies
  • 2 coordinating fabrics
    • One piece 10-12 inches wide, width of fabric (40-44" long)
    • One piece 18-20 inches wide, width of fabric (40-44" long)
We hope you can come ... as always I look forward to being inspired by all of your terrific projects!  Come ... relax ... sew ... and bring a dish to share!  See you there!

Such Fun...Much Inspiration!

OMGosh!  We had so much fun on Saturday ... take a look!
Lila worked on multiple projects...isn't this quilt going to be stunning? Yum!
As she promised the night before, Tammy worked on her binding!
Jan was busy making "piles" of log cabin blocks!  See how her quilt matches her sewing machine?  Isn't that just the cutest?  Love it!
JoAnn was busy making this beautiful Irish Chain quilt for her daughter!
Diane U. has been busy...
Yep...she made two of them!  One is to be auctioned off at the Tea and the other is a door prize for those who are decorating tables!  I want one ... they are stunning!
She was quilting this table runner, it is also for the auction!
Diane W. was busy all weekend ... she was demonstrating the Accuquilter and teaching those who took her Hypnotic quilt class!
Kay made a lot of progress on her Hypnotic quilt!
Cece was also taking the Hypnotic class, but rather than use a Bali Pop, she chose a two fabric combination.  It's so fun to see how others interpret a pattern.  Love it!
Valerie began a set of placemats and table runner.  It is a Judy Niemeyer pattern ... they will be stunning!
We received a special visit by the Guild's youngest member ... Princess Amelia!
All this fun ... all this quilting ... it was exhausting!
Remember!  We are doing it all over again next weekend!  You won't want to miss it!  Friday, November 5th 6:00 pm!  Saturday, November 6th is a very big guild day!  Sewing begins at 10:00 am.  Potluck at 6:00 pm.  Quarterly Membership meeting begins at 7:00 pm.  Diane will be sharing a demonstration and pattern for a ten minute table runner!  You won't want to miss the fun!  More details later!
