A Successful Tea & Auction!

We hold only one major fundraiser a year ... our annual Tea & Auction!  All proceeds from this event go towards the scholarships that we sponsor!

This year our event was held in the Masonic Temple.  Once again NVE has allowed us to use their facility free of charge!  Their generosity has been such a blessing to our guild over the past few months...we are very grateful!  Thanks NVE!

Every year guild members volunteer to decorate a table for the event ... it is always fun to see the different themes and ideas members come up with!  Enjoy!
It is a pleasure to see how members choose to express themselves each year!
Members Lila and Sam chose a Hawaiian themed table...beach towels and all!
They even dressed the part by wearing Hawaiian shirts!  The long sleeves under and polar fleece vest over are dead give-a-ways about our true location!  Too funny! ;-)  A big thanks to the many who decorated this year!  It really helps to enhance the fun for our guests and members!

Every year we enjoy the anticipation and a bit of secrecy when it comes to the items members create for the auction!  There is always a large variety ... something for everyone!  Take a look!

The talent and generosity of our members is delightful to see each year.  We had well over 60 items donated to be auctioned off!  Many members donate more than one item!  Thank you all for sharing your talents!
Our collaborative quilt turned out beautiful.  Valerie was chairperson of this project.  Members were asked to donate two strips of batiks.  She and her committee took those strips and sewed them into blocks and then pieced the top.  The pattern idea came from American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine's August 2011 issue.  The committee resized it and created a king sized quilt!  Member Linee' donated the batting and her longarm quilting talent!  We are SEW grateful for her generosity!  Our local fabric store gave us a discount on the backing and binding yardage, so that was our only expense!  A huge thanks to Valerie and her committee for their efforts!  It is great to have a "bed sized" quilt available for auction at this event!
Guests and members began to arrive...
People found a table to share with their friends...
...and the goodies were served!  Cordovans know how to make and share food, a wide variety was available to our guests!

Auctioneer Jerry did a wonderful job in assisting us in securing the funds necessary for our scholarships! He volunteers his time and talent every year...we are sew appreciative!

The Tea & Auction is such an important event.  Every year, for 20 plus years, we have given two scholarships to qualified graduating seniors.  And those scholarships are renewable for an additional three years as long as they remain full time students!  This event allows us to provide that opportunity to our Cordovan youth.  Member Renee' was the chairperson this year, it is a huge task...she and her committee are responsible for the success we enjoy!  Thanks Renee'!

Your Guild Needs You!

It's time for our Annual Tea & Auction!  The committee for this year's fundraising event needs your assistance!  The following is needed:

  • Volunteers to decorate a table!
  • Volunteers to bring baked goods!
  • Items for the auction!
Will post more information as it becomes available!  Rumor has it that the auction items that have been turned in so far are stunning...as usual!  Our members are talented!  Call committee chairperson Renee Rankin to see how you can help!  Thanks!

Quiltville Fun Cordova Style!

Sara is President of our local chapter of the Bonnie Hunter Fan Club!  She was busy...
...look at what she has been up to!  We are all so impressed...and we know that Bonnie would be as well!   Yep...Sara has been bit by the Hexie bug! ;-)
Terry was busy working on her Cathedral Stars!  Her choice of bright, vibrant colors is very striking!
She got a bit side-tracked with her new design theory...three dimensional piecing!  None of us could figure out how she did it (including her), but we were all able to contribute suggestions for its possible uses!  ;-)
Julie was busy working away on her Red(Blue) Ridge Beauty!  Look at that pile of 4-patches ... we have all fallen in love with the Leaders & Enders lifestyle!
Lila stopped by with her Hypnotic quilt finished!  It is stunning!  It is a Christmas present ... for a very fortunate person ... they are sew lucky!
Valerie made serious progress on her Cathedral Stars quilt ...
... take a look!  Isn't it beautiful?  Inspired us all to make progress on ours!
Diane came armed with a big selection of lights and blacks ... she immediately put the Accuquilter to good use ...
Click here to join the fun!
... yep ... she is doing the Orca Bay mystery!
Doesn't she look terrific with that huge pile of 1.5 inch strips in front of her?
And it didn't take her long to begin turning those strips into segments ready for the sewing machine!

We had such a great afternoon ... catching up with one another ... sharing our Quiltville projects ... and basking in the glow of friendship.  What a wonderful way to spend a cold November afternoon!

Celebrating Quiltville Event!

The excitement continues!  Bonnie was so inspired by her visit, that she designed her annual mystery quilt around her experience here!  It is called Orca Bay!  Step one will be announced tomorrow! (11/18)

To celebrate everything Quiltville, we have organized an opportunity for members to meet and work together on their Bonnie Hunter quilts!  The fun begins this Sunday, November 20th from 1-5 pm in the Home Ec room.  The Accuquilter will be available!

Bring your stash to begin the Orca Bay Mystery or bring your Blue Ridge Beauty / Cathedral Stars and lets revisit our Quiltville experience!

Let's Party! Thimbleberries Style!

Many of us members have enjoyed fabric and patterns designed by Lynette Jensen of Thimbleberries for years!  Her patterns and techniques helped many of us grow as quilters over the years.  No...we are not going to count the number of years!  ;-)

A few of our members visited the Thimbleberries Studio Store and met Lynette this past summer!  You can read the details here.
We were so inspired by Lynette and her talent...we have looked into a way to extend the Thimbleberries experience ... JACKPOT!  The Thimbleberries 2012 Club!
All guild members are invited to join the party!  Here is how it works...
...every participant gets the book that contains the instructions for all the patterns...love it!  All the patterns in one publication!
The fabrics are to die for...
...yes, they are yummy! ;-)
Just when you think it can't get any better...you get to pick and choose what projects(kits) you want to make!  You can choose to do all of them or just a few!

Fabric samples will be on display and registration forms will be available at the Tea & Auction on November 27th.  Several members have already joined!  Registration forms will be mailed on December 1st.  If you have questions, call Terri S. for further details.

Once registration has been sent, we'll meet as a special interest group and determine where and how often we'll gather during 2012!
Lets Party...Thimbleberries style!
