Camp Quiltathon Friday Recap

OMGosh … we had a great time at Camp Quiltathon!  Before the fun could begin ...
… the camp directors took on the task of transforming the Home Ec room into Camp Quiltathon!  Each camp table cabin was assigned a color.  A Northwind quilt block centerpiece was how campers identified their cabin!
Members received a name tag during registration that designated their cabin assignment!
The Camp Mess Hall is an important place for conversation and nourishment!
The AccuQuilt station … stood ready to assist campers.
Baskets of door prizes …
… and this sewing machine cover … waiting to be won by campers!
Everything was ready!  Camp Quiltathon Directors waiting patiently for campers to arrive!  Everyone received their table assignments and quickly set up!
Green Table
Yellow Table filled with Sunshine!
Pink Table
Lavendar Table
Blue Table
Once set up, we had a wonderful "Show and Tell".

Next ... it was time for a traditional camp activity … Warm Ups!
Our first warm up activity was "Cord Keepers"!  It was a fun way for all of us to start those engines sewing machines and make a quick project.  The project instructions can be found here.

Camp Quiltathon was planned to be a "loose ends" event … a time for everyone to work on a project of their choice!

A lot of progress was made on projects of every kind!
Every camp must include a few friendly competitions … The Great Bobbin Race recorded how many bobbins each camper emptied!  You got to wear the "A-Bobbin-Nation" necklace after you finished a bobbin!  Too fun!
Friday ended with all that campers love … team building, show and tell, a group project, competitions, door prizes and an abundance of silliness!  Fun for all!

Your spring retreat chairpersons have been busy making plans … let's celebrate spring!  Camp Quiltathon is only days away!  This is a "Loose Ends" event!  Get out a project in progress or start a new one!

Camp Directors Valerie and Terri have been busy planning a fun filled weekend!  You'll have loads of time to work on your projects!  They have added bonus activities to help with the camp themed experience.

General Information

Online Registration
It is important that you register in advance!  For planning purposes we need to know who and how many to expect.  Space is limited and we want to make room for everyone.  Just click on the image labeled "Camp Quiltathon" and type in your information.  If you do not have a cell phone, just enter your home number.  Your email address allows us to send you last minute updates!  The $10 retreat fee will be paid when you arrive at camp!

Special Events
Several fun events and competitions have been planned for members to participate in!  Each day begins with a Sewing Warm-Up project!  There will be Sewing Olympic Events to help break up the day!  Also, fun-filled competitions that last the entire retreat!  All events come with prizes and notoriety!

Commemorative Quilt
Member Dixie asked if we would organize a quilt for Jerry made by Julie's friends.  If you would like to participate, please bring batik scrap fabrics in masculine colors.  The pattern requires 2.5 X 18 inch strips.  We will use our Accu-Quilter to cut the strips from donated fabric.

Potluck Dinner
Members always look forward to our retreat potlucks … we know how to feed ourselves very well! ;-)  In keeping with the camp theme, the guild will provide Pigs-In-A-Blanket (hotdogs baked in bread dough), Terri is making baked beans, Valerie is providing potato salad, and guild President Sara will be bringing S'mores bars!  Please fill in the menu with any dish you'd like to share!

Snacks
We all enjoy the snacks everyone brings to sustain us while we sew!  Bottled water, coffee and tea will be available.   Keeping with tradition … there will be Chee-toes! Hee-hee!

International Quilting Day!

We celebrated International Quilting Day last Saturday with a "Time to Sew" event!  Those who attended inspired and encouraged one another!  Love that about the guild!

Another new member … Shannon!  Welcome!  Shannon grew up here in Cordova, graduated from high school, went off to college, and built a career.  She recently brought her wealth of experience and moved back home, to share her many skills with us!
She is an avid quilter … and brought a few of her recent finishes to share with us!  Beautiful quilts!
Such talent!  We're so happy to have her home and involved in our guild!
Sam was busy putting the binding on her gorgeous star sampler quilt that was recently quilted by one of our local long arm quilters!
Member Roseann was busy making gifts for the students in her son's graduating class.  They will be sew appreciated!
Barb made great progress on her second "Seasonal Table Runner" by Quiltworx!
Valerie recently finished this adorable wall quilt!  Such fun!
Our second to youngest member (her infant sister took over the role as youngest) made a special appearance!  She wore a selvage necklace and had to have her own guild name tag!

We held a brief business meeting to discuss details for both the Spring and Fall Retreat!  Spring Retreat is just around the corner … April 4-6!  Space is limited so register soon to reserve your spot!  Click on the photo to find details and register!  More details will be posted here on the blog soon!  Stay tuned!  You won't want to miss the fun!

February Inspiration!

Wow!  Our members have been very busy … so inspiring to see what they've accomplished since January!  Here is a peek!
Darlene was busy making gifts!
She had several finishes to share!
She put beautiful hand quilting detail into this table runner.
A gorgeous finish!  Love the purple and red!
She also pieced the backing!  Wonderful!
And topped it off with this beautiful label … the quilt is a wedding gift!
Roseann was busy putting binding on a baby quilt.
It is a beautiful "marine" themed quilt!
Cece and her daughter have been busy doing some "stash busting" piecing!
This quilt was pieced with several charm square packs!  Yes, even the border was cut from charm squares.  Lovely in every way!
Cece was also busy working on her "Leaders & Enders" Blue Ridge Beauty quilt!
Lila spent the day paper piecing …
… her Quiltworx table runner will be stunning!
Terry has made great progress on her Glacier Star … she is now busy piecing the borders!  What an accomplishment!
Sam is busy piecing a wedding quilt!
The pieces are small … but progress is being made … we all look forward to watching it evolve!
New member Mary Ann was busy cutting out a patriotic quilt!
She also shared a few finishes!  Beautiful vintage modern quilt!
This vibrant quilt is a gift for a friend that loves camping!
Mary Ann used "Glamper" fabric in the quilt.  Seriously?  How fun is this?  Love it!
Barb has been especially busy!  She was busy working on a Quiltworx table runner.
But … look at all of her finishes this past month!
Everyone was barefoot!  Yes, she knocked the socks off everyone who entered the room!  Too fun!

Another fun day of inspiration for members!  We are so grateful for the time we spend together!
