Christmas in July Event

We need a little Christmas ...

Right this very minute!

Our world has been turned upside down! That can actually work to our advantage!  Making it easier to celebrate Christmas in July! We need a bit of silliness ... albeit from a distance!

Members Sarah and Terri had made plans for a huge Holiday event at the City Center ... but Covid-19 got in the way of those plans!  They have put their heads together and come up with a plan!

Mark your calendars for July 25th and 26th!  A virtual retreat has been planned!  If possible dedicate some time each day to quilt!  Here are some of the fun planned for that weekend!

Secret Santa Fun!

Spread some cheer!  Give a gift!  Participate in our Secret Santa event!  You will be assigned a NWQG member!  Gifts can be handmade or purchased ($20-$25). And should be delivered some time on the 25th!

Festive Fir Quilt-A-Long!

This fun filled quilt comes in three sizes and can be made with any style of fabric!  Terri made this in June when she came across the pattern on Instagram!
Terri's 18 inch wall quilt

She recorded the process here if you would like to see how easy it goes together!

The pattern was designed by and is available at Sew Brainy Designs!

To participate, you will need to purchase the pattern.  Click this link to purchase the pattern!

The three sizes are an 18 inch square, a 31 x 33 inch wall hanging and a 63 x 67 inch lap sized quilt!

Yardage is somewhat minimal, and many of you can use fabric from your stash for the tree parts, or there is time to treat yourself and order some beautiful new Holiday fabrics! If you have the Instagram App, search #festivefirquilt to see many versions of the design!

Loose Ends!

This pandemic has loosened all types of ends! But we're referring to the quilting variety! You've earned a quilting break!

Zoom Meetings!

How to dress for Guild Zoom meetings! 😂

We miss one another!  We miss our Time to Sew events!  Sew, we'll be scheduling four Zoom meetings over the weekend!  A chance to see one another for a bit of Show n' Tell, share what you're working on, and answer any questions some might have about the Quilt-A-Long!

Door Prizes!

Yes!  Door prizes will be drawn at each Zoom meeting!  Must be present to win!

Registration!

Make sure you're on our list!  We need you to register!  Click this link to register!  We need to know whether or not you are going to participate in our Secret Santa event and to share information about the Zoom meetings!

Sarah and Terri are excited about the alternate plans they have made for this event and hope you'll join in their silliness!  If you have questions contact Sarah at trumblee4@hotmail.com or Terri at tsdillydally81@gmail.com!

Thanks to all of our guild members who participated in our quilt along for the Plaidish Quilt and the Feather Your Nest Table Runner.  We shared pictures of the projects on our Instagram account and enjoyed seeing everyone’s projects.  While we definitely miss our monthly Time to Sew events, and the chance to visit, share and create together, we were able to share and create together in this virtual space.

Our first Quilt-A-Long was the Feather Your Nest Table Runner by Monica Curry.  This was a fun and modern project led by Marcella through our first Zoom demonstration for the guild.  Several members shared their runner tops and one completely finished this super fun paper pieced project.

Amber choose beautiful whites and grays for her feathers.

Sarah chose shades of gray surrounded by white for her elegant runner.

Marcella, our demonstration leader, had a gray background with bright jewel tones for her feathers.  She completed her runner with some awesome machine quilting.

Teri chose beautiful bright ombré fabrics with gold accents for her fun feathers.

Everyone did a great job making this beautiful runner.  The winner of the $50 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop is Marcella!  Enjoy!

Our second Quilt-A-Long was for the popular scrappy Plaidish Quilt.  This one is great way to use your scraps.  Two members finished their tops and they couldn’t be more amazing.

Kay made this beautiful scrappy blue and yellow version of the Plaidish quilt.

Teri’s Plaidish quilt is bright and colorful and simply so fun!

The winner a $50 gift certificate to Fat Quarter Shop for this Quilt-A-Long is Teri!

Thanks to all members that participated and joined in some virtual sewing time with each other!!  These projects are amazing and unique.

PWSAC is working hard to get masks for their employees, but their order is constantly on back order and they have a large group of employees scheduled to come this way.  They are looking for some help and are hoping they can get 100 masks from our local quilters to meet their needs.  If you are able to help, please contact Amber Thompson or message the Guild on Instagram to donate any masks you can.  Thank you!

Emergency Need!

Guild Members!  We have been asked to fill an urgent need.

The Coast Guard ship in town is in need of 46 adult sized masks!  They can be any style and shape.

Many of you have been making them for family and friends, so use what ever pattern and materials that you have been using.

If you're new to making them, Bonnie Hunter has a great tutorial here.  Like many of you, I have been making them and have used this pattern here.

Finished masks are to be delivered to Angela, the Physical Therapist at the hospital.  Your help is needed and appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Quilt-A-Long and a Drawing

We are definitely missing our times to get together and sew and visit.  With both our March and April Time to Sew Events cancelled and our Spring Retreat postponed until further notice, our members have been coming up with ideas on how we can still sew together while social distancing. Since we can’t get together and quilt, we have some fun online events to keep us sewing together and sharing with each other.

Let’s get started with a Quilt-A-Long featuring the free Plaidish quilt pattern from Kitchen Table Quilting, which you can find and download Here.  This is pretty simple with no online meetups required (unless you guys want one-we can make it happen!) and you can create at your own pace.

Here’s how it works:

  • The Quilt-A-Long will run from today to May 31st.  You have that long to participate and complete your project (officially-we all quilt at our own pace so don’t feel obligated to rush yourself!).
  • Periodically share your project with the Guild by posting photos on Instagram and tag us @cdv_northwind_quilters OR email me your photos at sevans7429@gmail.com.
  • When you have completed your quilt top (just the top!), post a picture in the same manner.

For everyone who participates and shares their progress (at least a seam sewn) with the Guild, you will be entered in a drawing for a gift certificate to Fat Quarter shop!  For everyone who completes a top, you will be entered a second time.  We will draw on June 1*.

Stay tuned for some more fun projects and gatherings coming your way!

**Please note the drawing is only open to current Guild members.

Social Distancing and Quilting

Life is certainly a little different right now.  Social distancing, quarantine, working from home-nothing is really “normal” right now.  Hopefully, though, you are able to find some time to do those things you still enjoy, that bring you calm and peace and joy.  What are you creating?  What are you working on?  Have you finished any projects?  Started something you love?  Please share pictures!  While our Time to Sew events and Spring Retreat have been canceled, we can still collaborate and share with each other.  So members, send us some pictures and stories about what you are making so we can share on Instagram and the Blog, so we can continue to quilt and share together and inspire each other.  If you want to share, please email your pictures to sevans7429@gmail.com.  Can’t wait to see what we are all working on!!!

Friday, March 13, 2020

I’m sorry to say that Time to Sew will be cancelled this weekend as the school is closing all facilities.  We will keep you posted on the Status of our Spring Retreat as well as future Time to Sew Events.

Members-we will have all of the sign up sheets for different committees at Time to Sew.  Please come and sign up to help with our many events, including The Quilter’s Tea, Spring and Fall Retreat and more.

February Fun!

Many members gathered this weekend to make progress on quilting projects!
Barb made great progress ... slicing Pinwheels up to create cute Churn Dash blocks!

Shannon was busy turning charm squares into hashtag blocks!
Super sweet table runner ... design by Sherri Falls!
Nora came with her scrap tote ...
... and is creating a quilt for a friend!
Diane worked on her beautiful Pineapple quilt ... she is still deciding whether it will be queen or king sized!  The end is in sight!
Susie brought in a Jelly Roll Rug that she just completed!  Beautiful!
Amber was busy piecing blocks for the Flying Geese Crossing she started when Kimberly Einmo taught here.
Stunning results!
Sarah brought in her Anchor quilt for Show n' Share! She started it at fall retreat and here it is finished!
Three members were busy making the same quilt this weekend.  Each chose their own color palette, what fun!

Sarah's version!

Angela's batik version!

Marcela finished her version!  It was fun for all members to watch the three quilts come together!

Stay Tuned

There are plans for our Annual Membership Business Meeting later this month.  Details will follow as soon as they are available!
