Quilt of Valor Service Project
It has been a wet and dreary May, but on Saturday the sun came out and so did our members!
Thanks to the efforts of Kathleen and Kay, we had a mission that enabled us to create an equally beautiful day indoors! They co-chair our Service Committee and organized a Quilt of Valor event for us!
They made a few sample blocks ahead of time help us envision the quilt!
Members raided their stashes and brought scraps of red, white and blue fabric. Our guild's Accu Quilter made short work of cutting up all that stash!
Before long log cabin blocks were appearing everywhere!
Everyone pitched in and found a task to do!
Some members focused on sub-cutting the units!
While others were busy piecing!
By 2:00 pm we had 48 blocks done and had determined the layout!
Kay and Kathleen immediately got busy and pieced the top! It truly was "A Quilt in a Day"!

Because our Q of V went together so quickly, members had time to share finished projects and make progress on current ones!
Kay shared a recently finished sampler quilt designed by Pat Sloan!
Tory finished a Missouri Star design and Marcela machine quilted it for her!
Marcela does beautiful machine quilting, here is some detail from the back of the quilt!
Torie was busy adding borders to another sampler!
Amber spent the afternoon making a travel bag!
It was fun to see it come together! The results are beautiful!
Marcela joined Amber and was making the bag along with her!
Both finished them by the end of the day! What a great way for friends to spend a day together!
Barb continues to make great progress on her hand applique' blocks!
Marianne shared a quilt top she had finished piecing while out of town!
She used log cabin blocks to create the shape of a grand piano for this quilt top.
She then pieced the keyboard!
It was added to the piano and another quilt top was done!
As always, our Time to Sew event was inspiring and productive. A huge thanks to Kathleen and Kay for organizing our Quilt of Valor! It was a wonderful way to spend sewing time during Memorial Day weekend! We are all so excited that it will be given to a local veteran!
