Speaking of sunshine, our Spring Retreat committee is chaired by Shannon.  She and her committee have made some exciting plans!  It will be held April 17-19th and is a "Loose Ends" event!  They have planned a lot of entertainment while we sew ... games, prizes, a swap table, food and tons of fun!  So save the date and don't miss out on the fun!

February Inspiration!

Prepare to be inspired!  Our February Time to Sew event was a button popping, seam splitting, rip-roaring day!  All puns intended!
Buttons are popping because we're proud to welcome another new guild member!
We've admired her talents at the local craft fair ...
... and are happy she's joined in our fun!
Lila has been on a binding binge ... three projects completely finished!
She pulled out a project from her stash...

She made great progress!  It is going to be a beautiful quilt!
Marianne worked on multiple projects ...
... she shared a disappearing nine patch finish!
She shared the second block of the Fat Quarter Shop's Quilt-a-Long ....
... and has made great progress on these quilt blocks.
This is a wool felt applique' / embrodery piece that had been given to her mother while she was expecting Marianne!
Incredible workmanship and detail ...
... what a treasure!  Very inspiring!

Seams were splitting because of how much everyone accomplished while we were together yesterday!
Terry was busy working on the project selected during our Quilter's Anonmyous meeting last week!

She also shared progress on her new Quiltworx project!
At the end of the day ... the QA project was done!  Yay!
Susie came to work on her Jilily Overture!
Her applique' was gorgeous ...
... and she pieced the next border!
Shannon was busy making travel laundry bags ...
... for herself and her mother!  Such an inspirational mother/daughter quilt team!
Shannon also made great progress on her Trellis ... sew beautiful!
Tory arrived with a Jelly Roll top finished!
She was busy layering and pin basting ...
... and began machine quilting ... for the first time!
By the end of the day, she had finished all the machine quilting!

Before long ... the blocks were finished and laid out on the floor ...
... by the end of the day it was all sewn together!
Denna finished her Popsicle units and began to lay them out ...
... by the end of the day, all the blocks had been pieced together!
Neva brought in a top that had recently been quilted ... the hearts were all pieced during a guild block exchange that we had done years ago!  Lots of wonderful memories are sewn into this quilt!  What a treasure!
Danielle and her little Mister dropped by ... this new Mom squeezes in quilting during nap time!  It was such fun to have her drop by!
Cece was busy basting her Overture ... it is stunning!
Angela is making great progress on her Lucky Stars blocks!
Diane was busy preparing and cutting fabric for a community quilt we are making!
Fabric donations were collected from members.

The Rip-Roaring began ...
when members gave and received their fabric bundles!  It will be sew fun to see what member create and the reactions of the recipients!
Time to Sew Event organizer Barb was busy working on her red and white quilt top!
Creating rows ...
... and before long ... it was a finished top!

What a wonderful and inspiring day!

February Time to Sew Details!

When:   Saturday, February 21st 9:00 am to 6 pm
Where:  High School Home Ec Room

First Big Announcement!

Members Darlene and Marianne have planned a fun activity for members to participate in.  You may recall that we did something similar in 2013 ... the blog post is here.  All those who participated were so happy they had ... and many members requested that we do something similar again!  The fun begins Saturday ... here are the details!

Rip-Roaring Spring Retreat Reveal
A way for members to have fun at the Spring Retreat!  Here are the details:
WHAT:  Prepare a quart sized Ziploc bag by filling it with fabrics from your stash and a folded index card with your name inside.   Meet to exchange scrap packs anonymously at the Feb Time to Sew and then have 3 months to prepare a secret gift for a fellow guild member.  Meet back up for the final exchange at the Spring Retreat with your finished project and any unused scraps.
WHEN:  Bring bag of fabric (recommend 4-8 fat quarters or equivalent such as ½ yard if preferred, no small scraps please) to the next Time to Sew in the CHS Home Ec Room on Feb 21, 2015.  Since this is a spring project, include at least 1 fabric with a spring theme (floral, pastel, bunnies, etc).  The final (completed project) exchange will take place at the Spring Retreat.  The exchange will take place at 2:00 pm (absent members may still participate with a little pre-planning).
WHY:  A fun way to clear out some of your stash and receive a unique fabric item.
HOW:  If you want to participate just show up at the Feb Time to Sew with your baggie of scraps.  These will be placed into brown paper bags to ensure anonymity along with your index card with your name on it.  Any questions, call Darlene at 423-8181.
Things to think about:
When you prepare your scrap bag:  Choose fabrics and colors as you like but try not to use small scraps as that might frustrate your Secret quilter.  Remember to include at least 1 fabric with a spring theme.   Be considerate of your Secret quilter, a good variety of fabrics could spark a more creative product.
When you sit down to prepare a final product:  Try to think about items your recipient might like and that would include colors, themes or styles they would value.  You can add fabric from your stash to complete the project if you want to.  Any finished project will be treasured, so anything you choose is fine.  Some ideas are listed below.
Get going ideas:  Possible items to make include:  placemats, tote bag, table topper, Christmas ornaments, wall hanging, hot pads, mug mat, supply and project organizers, thread catcher, string quilts, paper pieced blocks…brainstorm or search the internet for more options.  Use your creativity!  J

Huge thanks to Darlene and Marianne for organizing this!  What fun!
