Time to Sew with a Mission!

OMGosh!  It is amazing what a few dedicated guild members can accomplish!  Our Annual Tea & Auction is less than two weeks away!
Sam is a member of the "Large Auction Quilt" committee ... with her leadership and three "worker bee" members ... the mission was accomplished!
We felt the pressure, but in NWQG style, we made it fun!  Valerie was in charge of all math calculations!  We are grateful!
Terry B. is always so productive ... she and her machine put on several miles of stitching Saturday!  Terri S. served as the "guild gopher" ... cutting, pressing, and a bit of sewing!  Sara H. also came by and helped out for a few hours.
The center star layout.
Fortunately, Diane U. had made all the small star blocks in advance.  That made it possible for us to put the top together in one day!  Thanks a million Diane!
It is a king-sized quilt!  Shannon E. volunteered to piece the backing and prepare the binding!  Member Linee' has volunteered to do the long-arm quilting and to apply the binding.  We still need a volunteer to tack the binding down by hand!  Please contact Sam if you're able to help with that!  Whew!  What an effort ... thanks to all who made and are making it happen!  Our members are amazing!
We made time for a bit of show and tell.  Sam is making good progress on this beautiful quilt.
Terry is ready to quilt this adorable Berenstain Bear top!  Sew sweet!
She also has several auction items in progress.
Beautiful!
Thanks to Terry for making arrangements for the day!

October Time to Sew!

We are weeks away from our Annual Tea & Auction!  This monthly Time to Sew Event will be a great time to work on auction items!

  • Saturday, October 18, 2014
  • 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Home Ec Room
A committee has already begun work on the "XL Auction Item" for the Tea!  Saturday is an opportunity to help them finish piecing the top!

Remember our "Secret Santa" activity last year.  President Sara will have info for those interested in participating this year.  It was such fun ... you can revisit last year's event here.

In case you missed the Name Tag exchange ... here are a few pictures!
My goodness ... we have very creative members!
Each and every name tag a work of art!
We all wore them very proudly!  Thanks go to President Sara for organizing this activity!  Everyone was so pleased with the results!
And while we're preparing for the auction ... the guild recently received this thoughtful thank you note from one of our scholarship recipients, Rita Covel!  Such a lovely gesture on her part ... and a reminder that what we do makes a difference!  Win/win for all involved!

See you Saturday!

Jillily's Overture!

The Overture class didn't begin on Sunday until 12:30 pm ...
... but the room was available at 9:00 so members could choose to come and continue working on their Trellis!

Jill was impressed when she arrived and found all the progress everyone had made!  Each one is different and unique in its own way!  Such fun!
We were excited to move forward as we began working on the "Overture" wall quilt.  Our second Jillily quilt!
We began with the appliquéd center block!
Members could choose to do this block with either cotton or wool.  Jill reviewed her applique' techniques using cotton!  It was great to go over it twice ... there were many questions answered!
Next she shared her techniques using wool!

Again ... such fun to see all the different color choices!  Each and everyone beautiful!
The piecing on this quilt is very different from the Trellis.
Jill demonstrated several tips to improve our accuracy!  Skills we can apply to all our patchwork!
It was such a wonderful weekend ... in every possible way!  Jill was so generous with her time and talent!  She encouraged and empowered us ... not only in our quilting, but in all areas of our lives!
This sticker on a member's machine says it all ... our retreats, here in Cordova, are a very happy place!  Special thanks to Jill for all she did to make our fall retreat exceptional!  We all enjoyed the time spent with her!
