Time to Sew - April Edition

We began on Saturday by celebrating with Barb and Terry's completion of their "Seasonal Table Runners"!  They are beautiful!

Sam and her mother, Barb, were busy making a quilt!  It is a gift for someone special!  It will be fun to watch it evolve!  Stay tuned!
Paula began working on a Blooming Nine Patch.  Oh ... such beautiful fabric!

Valerie came with the top for this baby quilt pieced ... layered it ... did the machine quilting ... and finished the binding!
She spent the rest of the day cutting out a new fusible applique project!  Wowser!

Terry was busy working on a beautiful sampler quilt!  The blocks are stunning!

Diane made great progress on her Judy Niemeyer quilt!  There are so many units in a large Quiltworx quilt!

Barb arrived with two kits ... completed both ... and spent the rest of the afternoon helping others on their projects!  We're going to rename her ... Zoom-zoom Barb!  What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday ... surrounded by the accomplishments of others is always inspiring!

Spring Retreat Success!

We arrived Saturday morning ...
... excited to begin paper piecing Judy Niemeyer style ...
... and to the largest pan of "monkey bread" in guild history!  It smelled and tasted wonderful!
We began by working on our "Spike" units ...
... it was inspiring to see everyone's fabric choices!
In the early afternoon, Sue demonstrated how to organize and piece the "Flying Geese" units.  We all got busy!

And before long...

... those flying geese units began showing up everywhere!

Guild members Neva ...
... and Kathleen joined us while they worked on personal projects.

This morning (Sunday) the focus was to continue working on the units necessary to complete our table runners.

Sue shared with us the assembly techniques!  She had many hints that made curve piecing easy!
Celebrating success!  We had fun teasing her about dressing to match her table runner!
A huge thank you to Guild Member Diane who organized this event!  She was also responsible for much of the food that we enjoyed all weekend!  We appreciate the many things Diane did to make the retreat so successful!  Many of us were intimidated by Judy Niemeyer's designs, but Sue gave us the skills and confidence to conquer those fears!  Thanks to Sue's patient, calm and clear teaching abilities, everyone was successful!
What a terrific group of women to spend the weekend with!  And how beautiful the tables in Cordova with be when these runners are put to use!  A wonderful and productive retreat!

2013 Spring Retreat Begins!

Every spring members look forward to our Annual Spring Retreat!  Each year is different, and it is always filled with quilting, friendship and fun!
This year we have Sue Wilson from SewFish here teaching us Judy Niemeyer techniques while making Seasonal Table Runners!
Sue is a certified "Judy Niemeyer Instructor"!  Here she is explaining the different units of this pattern  while Diane W. holds up her sample!
Sue serves as her own display board ... pinning her sample units to herself ... what a hoot!  Her relaxed competency immediately put members at ease.

By the end of the evening, we all had our pieces cut out and organized!  Sue did an excellent job of putting everyones fears to rest!  Today we begin piecing our units!  We are all looking forward to seeing our fabric choices come together!  Stay tuned!
